Dead man

“But I, like a deaf man, do not hear;
And I am like a mute who does not open his mouth.
Thus I am like a man who does not hear,
And in whose mouth is no response.”
Ps 38:13

David was being quiet before his enemies, and also foreshadowing the silence of Jesus in front of those accusing Him (John 18&19), which always blows me away…

I’m also reminded of an example that my amazing mom-in-law told me about, that just as you imagine a dead man and no matter what you do to him, he does not respond.
No matter if you poke him, slap him, pinch him or whatever – you will not get a rise out of him.

We are really to be like dead men in our flesh, and the only time we are to respond is in the Spirit.
And when we do, we are to respond in love and forgiveness. We are to respond in patience and joy…

I have a long way to go, but I’m journeying as hard as I can… :)

Love you guys and hope you have a wonderful day today.

Pls continue to pray for the victims of the flood and that people will continue to reach out.
It has been SO awesome to see the response of the churches and communities here! Praise the Lord!

  • Hi Adie. I have been behind a bit on following your blog and now realize you have a new one! :) My name is Andrea and I went to Bible College with your husband (back in the day). I began readin your blog fairly often because I love your honesty and heart for Jesus. My husband and I homeschool our 4 children, and pray for you both and the ministry that the Lord has placed you in, especially those sweet little angels you tuck in at night.
May the Lord guide you each day as you serve Him.

    dear adie,
I don't usually respond to something someone has witten on the web, in fact i never have. but your "Dead man" entry was so wonderful. between your explanation and your amazing 'mom in laws' words, it made such immediate sence to me. i read it and i just thought, wow i get it. this is how i want to be. i went and got my 10 year old daughter and had her read it, and then explained the meaning to her. I read your blog often. pretty much the only blog i read. between the scripture, and the 'mom' talk, and the recipes and the book recommendations, i enjoy reading you very much. i came across your blog because i had read your husbands a couple of times, but i have to tell you i very seldom read his now, but i read yours on a regular basis. -just thought you could tease him with this info:) - thank you for your inspirational words. Sheila

I like how Joyce Meyer says it too..."I'm not where I need to be, but thank God I'm not where I used to be". Thank you, Adie, for these words. They help me to stop and look at where I am, and how I need to improve in my walk with Christ. This is something that I always need to take th time out to do, daily really. Thank you again. We love you guys.
  • Those are good words Adie that I also need to apply. I have a long way to go as well.
